On 8-9 June 2023 the NIJ is organizing a training on “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights at national level and in the practice of the European Court of Human Rights” with the participation of the ECtHR judges Yonko Grozev, Carlo Ranzoni and Tim Eicke. The practice of the Bulgarian courts will be presented by Judge Krasimir Shekerdjiev from the Supreme Court of Cassation, Judge Sibila Simeonova and Judge Donka Chakirova from the Supreme Administrative Court, Judge Rositsa Toncheva from the Varna Court of Appeals, the Deputy Chairperson of the Sofia Regional Court Judge Maria Doncheva and Milena Kotseva, Director of “Procedural Representation of the Republic of Bulgaria to the European Court of Human Rights Directorate at the Ministry of Justice.
The training focuses on extradition and deportation of persons at risk of inhuman and degrading treatment in their country of origin; the collection and use of traffic data and internet tracking; procedural safeguards in search and seizure, protection against discrimination, guarantees of judicial independence, protection against hate speech and freedom of expression.
